Master Reset Instructions

The Samsung SGH-A177 cellphone has three types of resets: the soft reset, settings reset and hard reset. Soft resets are used to unfreeze the phone when the buttons stop responding. None of your data is lost when you perform a soft reset. A settings reset returns all of the settings to the factory defaults. Hard resets return the settings to the factory defaults and remove all of your personal data from the phone.

SOFT RESET INSTRUCTION

1. Press the battery cover release on the bottom of the phone and slide the battery cover toward the bottom of the phone to remove it from the Samsung SGH-A177.

2. Pull the battery out of the battery compartment.

3. Slide the battery back into the compartment with the contacts facing the top of the phone and then press down on the battery to ensure it is fully seated in the battery compartment.

4. Place the battery cover over the back of the phone and slide it toward the top of the phone until it clicks.

5. Press and hold the "Send" or "End" buttons on the phone until the screen turns on to complete the soft reset. The "Send" button is on the left side of the keypad above the "Q" and has a symbol of a telephone handset. The "End" button is on the right side of the phone keypad above the "P" and has a symbol of a telephone handset over a circle with a line in it.

SETTINGS RESET OR HARD RESET

1. Press the right soft key under the word "Menu" to open the SGH-A177 main menu. The right soft key is found to the right of the navigation buttons and has a "-" on it. Soft keys perform the command written on the screen above them.

2. Push the navigation buttons to highlight "Settings" and press down on the navigation button to open the "Settings" menu.

3. Select "Phone," and "Reset Phone" or "Restore Phone." When you choose "Reset Phone," the message "All settings reset to factory defaults" appears. When you choose "Restore Phone," the message "All settings reset to factory defaults and all user data will be deleted" appears. Only choose "Restore Phone" if you want to delete all of your personal information and data files.

4. Press the right soft key under "OK" to confirm the reset.
